Colby McGinley is a native of Austin, Texas. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2021 with Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations and Global Studies and Government. She then pursued her legal education at Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center, where she earned her J.D. in 2025 along with a Certificate of Taxation and Estate Planning.

While in law school, Colby served as an extern at the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources and interned with State Farm handling insurance defense matters. She also participated in the Small Business and Community Development Clinic, through which she provided legal assistance to small businesses, entrepreneurs, and nonprofit organizations. She returned home to Austin after graduation and joined Arnold Placek & Foerster as an associate. She is a member of the State Bar of Texas.

Outside of her legal practice, Colby is a devoted sports fan, cheering on the Longhorns, the Tigers, the Eagles, her fantasy football team, Formula 1, golf, tennis, and baseball. Colby also enjoys travelling, true crime podcasts, and visiting farmers markets with her husband and their dog Birdie.
